Hey Dan....keep trying, even a small reduction. I have too much lawn (live in Australia, biggish yard). Plan is to extend existing beds outwards to increase garden beds and only have lawn "corridors" - particularly keen to increase the native garden beds I have and some perennial areas. Going to try the lasagna lawn conversion - hessian. card board, mulch/compost, leave 6 months, then plant. But have do it incrementally so as not overwhelmed.
I love the sound of all your plans, and your methods - would love to know how you get on with the feted lasagna method. If I had the time, budget and energy to rip up my space and start again, I would design things very differently. As things stand, I'm having to edit/adapt the existing layout, and so stealing border space from the lawn is probably my best bet for creating new or increased planting space.
Planning and buying seeds is so much fun, I am in Australia and our summer can be harsh, so when I am not in the garden, I am planning and buying seeds for Autumn and Spring planting. I too want to reduce my lawn area so I am looking forward to reading you progress on that. Well done on the new job! Sounds exciting and quite a privilege.
So looking forward to watching your garden grow and change.
Just a thought from a parent and now grandparent though - a small patch of lawn can be perfection in the outdoors for little ones to sit, crawl, learn to walk, and finally to 'imaginate' on, while the big children (ie adults) dig and clip away at the borders...
You’re not wrong, Prue. And that is the thrust of the resistance coming my lawn-bashing way… I’m not one to ignore advice, so will keep mulling how to keep everyone happy!
Thanks Sara-Jane, I’m inclined to agree! And let me know if you ever need any help creating visuals for your designs - as you can see I have quite the talent for it 🙃

Ditto....just sneaking the edges outward, slowly, slowy...but it is a lot of fun, isn't it? :-)
It certainly is!
Congratulations on the new job Dan! Sounds like a perfect fit. I’m looking forward to seeing how your garden develops this year as well.
Thanks Laura! And yes, I’ll keep you posted!

I’m meeting resistance on the lawn front, but will certainly let you know how I get on on that front! What hopes or plans do you have for your lawn?

Congratulations on the new job. Sometimes the best changes come from within the institutions 😉 Can’t wait to see all the garden plans come into being!
